Beginnings
It will be over forty years since the disastrous filming of The Realm by the time of this publication. Forty years since E.E. Smith and everyone on set learned the folly that was Smith’s system for directing improvisation. The subsequent cover up of the tragic culmination to the film’s production would disappear not only the tragedy, but the lesson inherent in it. Most people have never heard of The Realm or anyone involved in it, and I believe this itself is a true crime if only because we cannot learn from history left on a cutting room floor, and we all know what happens when we do not learn from history.
So here it is. A history, as much as there can be one.
